1/14/2024 0 Comments Book of demons gameplayTown is where you'll upgrade and discover cards, get healed between floors, add new card slots to equip cards (you start with 3 and can upgrade to 10), and collect your rewards from the cauldron. Even better, every room you complete, you get a chance to go back to town to do the main part of the game outside combat/exploration: the cards. Only have 5-10 minutes? Got half an hour? There are different runs for that. Then there's the unlocking of what they term a Flexometer which basically lets you set roughly the length of a run and therefore how many rooms and about how long it will take to complete. Especially considering how good this Book of Demons game is.įor starters, the on the rails style to the hack and slash-you might think it's too restrictive, but I think it not only adds to the strategic side of trying to kite enemies or position yourself to avoid attacks, it also cuts down on wasted exploration time because it's very easy to see where to go on top of most maps (so far) not being very big. So now I'm VERY intrigued by these developers. When I booted it up for the first time and saw that Return 2 Games launch screen, I got intrigued and looked into the Book of Demons game and the studio's other content like their upcoming Book of Aliens game that looks kinda like XCOM and those other grid style turn based strategy games. I love early access games/content and plan to upgrade to the supporter's edition cause before I bought it, Hellcard was one of the oldest/earliest games in my current Steam wishlist and they sneakily dropped it a couple days ago. I bring all of that up in the review of this game because I think it factors into whether or not you might want to get this game, the super mega bundle, or something in between or none of it. I'm pretty sure if you get the $89.99 Supporter's Pack, you get all their upcoming games for their Return 2 Games series plus all the extra premium content that might come with them and some other stuff. I think of it that way because this studio has an interesting Supporter Pack bundle and upgrades that reminds me of the deal I got on Talisman's digital edition of that board game when I basically preordered all the future dlcs/content whenever they released it. Looking at it as a 2 for whatever total price I got them for type deal. I didn't think I was going to like it much at first, but was willing to try it out for the $5 discounted price (I believe you can currently play it for free for another day for this free trial weekend at the time of writing.) I keep mentioning Hellcard not just cause both games are made by the same studio and set in the same universe, but because I bought them about the same time and combined their cost in my head. I also kinda like this weird, on the rails style hack and slash gameplay. It reminds me of Amplitude Studios' Endless universe and all their different games that take place in that shared universe. I like that both games are set in the same paper art universe and even that so far some of the enemies and playable characters that are in this pop up in Hellcard. One is the Book of Demons-not just this game that I bought, but it hold Hellcard as well and if you want to back out to that launch screen and quickly launch one of their other games, you can easily do that. At first, I was a bit taken aback by the launch screen for Hellcard taking me to something called Return 2 Games and 7 podiums with 2 books on 2 of them. I've only played a couple hours of this and a bit of their other game, Hellcard, but I can already tell I really like both games and the developers.
